WHAT IS A HOMEBIRTH WITH A MIDWIFE? +

A homebirth is a conscious choice to labor and deliver your baby in the comfort, safety, and familiarity of your own home, supported by a licensed and highly trained midwife. It’s a natural, empowering, and deeply personal experience that respects your body’s innate ability to birth. Instead of the sterile, often chaotic environment of a hospital, homebirth allows you and your family to focus on the miracle unfolding around you—understanding that birth is designed by God to be a normal, life-giving event.

A midwife’s role is to walk alongside you through this sacred journey with expertise, compassion, and respect. We provide thorough prenatal assessments to ensure you are a good candidate for homebirth, monitor your progress carefully during labor, and offer gentle, continuous support throughout. Postpartum, we help you transition into motherhood, supporting both your physical recovery and emotional well-being.

Homebirth is more than just a medical choice; it’s a spiritual one—a declaration of faith in the Lord’s design for life and trust that He has created your body to do this. It’s about surrendering control, trusting in His plan, and embracing the beauty of birth in its most natural state—what God intended from the beginning.

While it’s deeply rooted in trusting your body and God’s plan, it is also supported by a rigorous training and certification process. Midwives are trained to recognize what is normal, what is concerning, and how to respond appropriately. We carry the necessary tools, medications, and protocols to handle emergencies or complications, and we know when to call in hospital assistance if needed—always prioritizing your safety in every step of this sacred process.

IS HOMEBIRTH SAFE? +

For low-risk pregnancies, research shows that with a qualified, licensed midwife and proper prenatal assessments, homebirth is as safe as hospital birth. The safety depends heavily on individual health, the midwife’s training, and early recognition of any signs that require hospital transfer. Continuous monitoring, thorough assessments, and collaboration with hospitals ensure safety without compromising the natural birthing process.

WHO IS A MIDWIFE, AND WHAT TRAINING DO THEY HAVE? +

A licensed midwife is a trained healthcare professional specializing in normal pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care. They complete extensive training, including clinical practice, coursework, and licensing exams. Midwives are experts in recognizing normal and abnormal situations and responding appropriately.

HOW DO MIDWIVES HANDLE EMERGENCIES DURING A HOMEBIRTH? +

While emergencies are rare in low-risk pregnancies, trained midwives are equipped to handle common complications such as excessive bleeding, fetal distress, and other urgent issues. We receive comprehensive training in obstetric emergencies, newborn resuscitation, and emergency response protocols. This allows us to recognize early warning signs and respond swiftly and appropriately. If an issue arises that requires specialized medical intervention, I will facilitate a prompt transfer to the hospital, ensuring you receive the care you need without delay. Trust in the training and experience of a licensed midwife means you’re supported by someone who knows when to act, when to observe, and when to call in backup—all with your safety at the forefront.

CAN I HAVE AN EPIDURAL OR OTHER MEDICAL PAIN RELIEF AT HOME? +

Epidurals are only available in hospital settings, so they’re not an option for homebirth. However, there are many natural pain relief tools we use to support comfort, including water in a birthing tub, TENS (electrical nerve stimulation), movement and position changes, massage, heat or cold packs, and emotional support. These methods help your body relax and manage pain naturally. If medical pain relief is needed, I will support a safe transfer to the hospital.

HOW ARE FETAL WELL-BEING AND MONITORING HANDLED DURING LABOR? +

Midwives use intermittent auscultation or Doppler devices to monitor the baby’s heart rate and your progress. This gentle approach minimizes disruptions while ensuring you and your baby are doing well. If there are any signs of fetal distress, we are prepared to transfer care to a hospital promptly.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I NEED TO TRANSFER TO THE HOSPITAL DURING LABOR? +

Transfers are uncommon, but they do happen for reasons such as labor that stalls, abnormal fetal heart rate, excessive bleeding, or other complications. As a trained and licensed midwife, I closely monitor both mom and baby throughout labor to recognize early signs that may require hospital care. We have established relationships with trusted local hospitals, and I will walk with you and your family through every step of a transfer—supporting you with calm reassurance and clear guidance. My goal is to ensure that the process is as smooth and comforting as possible, always prioritizing your safety and the health of your baby.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A MIDWIFE AND A DOULA? +

A midwife is a licensed healthcare provider trained to offer complete clinical care throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I monitor your health and your baby’s development, provide lab work and assessments, attend your birth as the primary medical provider, and support your recovery afterward. A doula, on the other hand, offers emotional, physical, and informational support but does not provide medical care or make clinical decisions. Both are valuable—just in different ways.

DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE? +

I don’t bill insurance directly, but I do provide a detailed superbill you can submit for possible reimbursement. Some clients are able to receive partial reimbursement, depending on their plan. I also partner with a professional biller who can handle this process for you, for a fee. Just reach out if you’d like more info.

If you're not sure what your plan covers, I recommend calling your insurance provider to ask about out-of-network midwifery benefits. Most reimbursements happen through PPO plans, and some families choose to switch to PPO during pregnancy for that reason. HMO and Medi-Cal plans are typically not eligible for reimbursement.

WHEN SHOULD I REACH OUT TO HIRE A MIDWIFE? +

It’s best to reach out early—most families contact me between 6 and 12 weeks pregnant so we have time to build a relationship and walk through your full prenatal journey together. But it’s never too late to explore your options. I’ve supported families who switched to midwifery care in their third trimester and even just weeks before their due date. If you feel called to a different kind of care, reach out. If I have availability and you’re a good fit for homebirth, I’d be honored to walk with you.

WILL YOU COME TO ME FOR ALL MY VISITS? +

Yes. All prenatal and postpartum visits are held in your home. This makes it easier for you to rest, ask questions, and settle into each visit with comfort and peace. It also allows me to get to know your space, which is helpful when supporting you during labor and birth.

DO YOU OFFER PRAYER OR FAITH-BASED SUPPORT DURING BIRTH? +

Yes. My care is Christ-centered and spiritually led. I offer prayer, encouragement, and presence that honors God’s design for birth and the sacredness of this journey. Every family is different, so I always respect your personal comfort level and spiritual preferences. If you’d like prayer, Scripture, or worship music incorporated, I’m honored to hold that space with you.

WHAT AREAS DO YOU SERVE? +

I’m based in the South Bay and serve the surrounding areas of Los Angeles and the South Bay beach cities. If you’re unsure whether you’re within range, feel free to reach out with your location. If I can’t personally serve you, I’ll do my best to refer you to a trusted midwife nearby.

DO YOU OFFER PAYMENT PLANS? +

Yes. I offer flexible payment plans to make this level of care more accessible. Most families choose monthly payments, but we can structure a plan that works with your financial situation. We’ll go over all the details during your consultation so you feel confident and informed.

HOW DO I OFFICIALLY BOOK WITH YOU? +

Once we’ve had a consultation and decided we’re a good fit, I’ll send a link to a portal which will allow you to begin the onboarding process. A signed contract and deposit are required to reserve your due month. After that, your care begins and your prenatal schedule is confirmed.
